“Slot” is a common acronym for a word that has a specific grammatical function. A slot is the grammatical term for a planned aircraft operation. A slot is also a job assignment or opening. For example, a chief copy editor occupies a slot at a newspaper. Another example of a slot is an opening in an airport’s copy desk. Another example is a flight authorization from an air-traffic authority.

The high slot is a prime area for a defenseman to take a shot. A defenseman can rip a blistering slap shot into the net while the center or winger can put their stick out in front of the goalie and redirect the shot. Some players even take slap shots with speeds of over 100 mph! This can make goaltenders react with lightning speed to the puck. A well-placed one-timer from a high slot is one of the most impressive shots in hockey.

A slot in a computer is a special opening designed to connect a processor. These slots are often referred to as expansion slots. The purpose of expansion slots is to expand the computer’s capabilities. They accept add-on boards. Likewise, a slot can accept disk drives. These types of slots can be found on the front or back of a computer. The technology of slots is relatively new. The modern version has a socket in the place of the old ISA connector.
