Slot

What is a Slot? A slot is a narrow opening, or groove, in something. For example, a mail slot in the post office lets you put mail through it. A slot is also a word for a deer track. A bloodhound will follow a deer’s track, or a slot, until it reaches its destination. It is a late-14c. word, originating in Old French. Although the exact origin is uncertain, the meaning of slot is recorded as early as 1520.

In hockey, a slot is a rectangle that extends toward the blue line. It’s also a fourth position in a flying display. The term comes from the Latin verb “slaugth,” which means “to put in a slot.” In other languages, the word “slot” is cognate with German Schloss. It is often referred to as a scoring area. A hockey player who plays in a slot will have the advantage of shooting from a low spot, and defenders will typically lay a big hit.

A slot may include one or more slots. Sometimes, a user may use multiple slots for the same entity value. For example, a user may say “I need a room in New York,” but actually mean “Big Apple.” In this case, the bot will understand and map the multiple words to a specific entity. If the user wants to add more slots, he or she can do so from the Utterance tab or the Slots tab. The user can add or remove slots by entering their names in the slot field.
